We are a growing badminton club based at Radcliffe Riverside Community Sports Centre in Radcliffe, Manchester. Although many of our members are pupils at St. Mary's R.C. Primary School in Radcliffe, we have a growing membership of those who are now at high school and even a growing group of adult members (many of who are parents of the children). We now have as many as 40 players taking part in badminton at our sessions on a Monday night. As well as taking part in our coaching sessions, our juniors compete in the Bury Junior School Sports Association Badminton League and the Greater Manchester Junior Badminton League.
The results of today's matches:
Our younger team of Jake, Bradley, Matthew and Carys had a fantastic start to their games in the Manchester Junior Badminton League winning their first match against Forrest 4-1. Our second match was against Bury Topflight and the Aces ended up winning 3-2, with some very close games! Well done to all the children, a fantastic start to the season!
The older team of Harry, Adam, Jasmine and Aimee started against new team Fords who were all older, bigger and far stronger resulting in a 5-0 thrashing. Then we played Alpha Whitworth with games shared until Aimee and Adam went on last and despite being 1-8 down somehow came back from several points down with Alpha on 14 then clawed the game back to 14-14 before finally losing the final point, the game, and the match. The final match against Oldham then saw St Marys come into their own and finish on a high with a 4-1 win. Well played everyone with a fantastic team spirit.
The remaining match days will be on:
All matches played at Belle Vue Sports Centre, M12 4TF from 9am until 2pm.
Hope everyone has been enjoying their Summer holidays. Our sessions will restart tomorrow on Monday 1st September and run during term time until Christmas.

Hello everyone,
Congratulations to everyone at St Mary’s Aces Badminton Club!
We have had yet another successful year at our Monday evening coaching sessions at Radcliffe Riverside Sports Centre. Our 6 o’clock early session of coaching has had 29 members and our later club night at 7 o’clock has had 24 players.
We are very proud of our junior players who played in the Greater Manchester Junior League. This year we entered two teams in the year 8 and under league and one older team in the year 9 and over.
Our older team of Adam, Harry, Aimee and Jasmine, won their division of the league. The younger A team Lauren, Dominic, Carys and Joe had fantastic matches and they won their division too. Our younger B team of Bradley, Jake, Bethany and Heidi with Jack and James reserving for us, played very well in their final matches with some very close results. We are hoping to build on their success next year in a very enjoyable junior competition.
Also, our school team of year 5 and 6 pupils have won the Bury Schools Badminton League. We have had a fantastic season playing matches home and away against other Bury Schools. We finished the season unbeaten to win the Badminton trophy and all players received medals and certificates. Ethan won the Sportsmanship award where children from the other schools voted for him to get a special award for his fair play and court etiquette.
A fantastic achievement by the whole team!
For the first time this year, we entered the Hawks Junior Badminton Tournament. Jasmine and Lauren finished as runners up in the final against 2 Lancashire players. Well done girls!
A big thank you to Mr Dominic Melia and Woodlands Child Care who have agreed to sponsor us and provide a new kit to replace our old badminton shirts.
The school’s PTA is also providing us with sporting equipment, which we are very grateful for.
Thank you to Mr Heaton and staff at school for their continued support and to Mr Christopher Travis for continually updating our website.
The last junior club night of the season will be on 30th June 2014. Sessions will return on 1st September 2014.
Next season we are looking to:
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you happy holidays and a big thank you for your support this year.
Many thanks

Early this morning Chris Adcock and Gabby White (currently ranked world #7 and England #1) got through to their first ever Super Series final. If they pull off a win tomorrow then it will be only the second time that England have won a title on the Super Series circuit!
To get through to the final they beat world champions, and top seeds, Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei in the mixed semi final of the Hong Kong Open.
If you fancy watching the match, it's available on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCPghktOdPc
The final will also be live streamed tomorrow on Youtube, but because of the time difference this is likely to be about 5:30am :S If you're like me and don't fancy getting up that early then it should be available to watch on https://www.youtube.com/badmintonworldtv shortly after.
UPDATE: They won! An amazing achievement. You can watch the final at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h1qW_abR-I.
A very close match with many close and enjoyable games to finish the Autumn 3013 Season of the North Manchester Open Badminton League. Oakgate took the lead initially but St Mary’s fought back to level the match 6 all in games but St Mary’s narrowly winning on points won. Congratulations to Chris, Liam, Peter and Steven on their attitude and determination throughout this season.
Final Score: St. Mary's 7.98 - Oakgate 7.97
St Mary’s started this North Manchester Open Badminton League match with 2 close games which they lost to 16 and 17. These were the two closest games and Bottomless Pit were just too good and succeeded in winning all the games.
Final Score: St. Mary's 1.18 - Bottomless Pit 14.4
Please note that we will be taking a quick break over half term so no badminton sessions will run on Monday 28th October 2013.
Enjoy your half term holiday and have a fun halloween.
We look forward to seeing you on Monday 4th November when our sessions will resume.
Week 5's North Manchester Open Badminton League match against Coney Squad started with very tight games with the first 4 games being split equally. Although most games were close after that, all the games went St. Mary's way. Congratulations to Liam on winning all six games.
Final Score: St. Mary's 12.32 - Coney Squad 3.98
Week 4's North Manchester Open Badminton League match started with two close games, Steven and Peter taking the first with excellent smashes. However Dare Devils edged the second with tight net shots. Lots of good rallies followed in the next six games with St. Mary’s almost sneaking the eighth game. Eventually Liam and Peter took St. Mary’s the second and final game of the match with a 21-14 win.
Final Score: St. Mary's 3.73 - Dare Devils 12.3
